Parker 890 drive replacement by Parker AC30

I have 3 Parker 890 Drives installed in a machine. 1st drive communicates with S7-300 PLC through Profibus communication and at the same time all three drives communicate to each other through firewire. Can I replace Parker 890 drives with AC30P or AC30D series drives. Can AC30 drive communicate to AC890 over firewire?

The AC30 line does not support the firewire protocol. For the AC30's in North America, we usually recommend LinkNET as the peer-to-peer communication between the drives. There should not be any programming difference when using LinkNET, but there may be other differences that need to be examined.

There are option cards for the 890 series for LinkNET. What region are you in? Ideally we can get you in touch with your local Parker Authorized Industrial Drive Distributors, who can take a deeper look at what you need and suggest a solution for you.

Hello sir,

One of the three AC890 drives broadcasts and the other two drives receives data from the first drive over fire wire. If we replace all three drives together with AC30P or D, can we achieve the same functionality. The AC30 catalog mentions that AC30P & AC30D are capable of Virtual master synchronization (same as AC890). We are located in Oman. In this machine we are facing frequent failure of AS890SD Drives. We have tried to reach local or global Parker distributors for their repair but they don't provide any support. They don't even bother to respond. That's why we are trying to replace it ourselves with AC30 drives.

Ravi,

Sorry for your experience with the local sales company. This will require a more insight on what your application needs. Since your first drive needs Profibus, you will need the PDQ/Codesys version of the AC30. We do not have much experience with this version of the AC30 because it is mostly used in Europe and Asia. In North America, we use the DSE version, which is similar to how the 890s are set up.

The PDQ/Codesys version is what is listed in the chart that you pasted and it does have the time sync peer-to-peer communications as well as the phase locking and virtual master so you should be able to use it, but you will need to discuss with your local support about your specific application.
