BL, BLX, BLH, BLHX, ML Suggested Replacements

Print Friendly and PDF

After reviewing the speed-torque curves for the ML motor with the BLH drive, this BE motor would be a suitable replacement and a close replacement.  The ML motors had a 1000 line encoder; the BE motor with J encoder is 2000 lines.

Note the ML and BL were 2-phase servo motors and both would need to be replaced. A BE motor cannot work with a BL drive; a Compax3 or Aries drive cannot work with a ML motor.

As these products have been obsolete for quite some time and application requirements have changed (loading, machine cycle times, etc), it may be a good idea to have the local Parker ATC distributor re-size the application.

Obsolete Product Recommended Replacement Product Notes Notes 2
ML-2340A BE231DJ-KPSN or BE232FJ-KPSN The motor dimensions are close. The BE motor has the same pilot diameter (1.5"), bolt circle diameter (2.625") and flange size (2.25").  The BE motor shaft is 1.25" long and a .094" square key. The ML-2340A had a metric 11mm diameter shaft with a 4mm sq key, 30mm long. BE motor limit is 5000rpm.  If needing higher speed use SM23 motor. The BE motor is a stamped lamination motor and not a housed motor.  If the motor is being washdown at all, the BE is not a good choice. The SM232AE-KPSN (or SM232AE-KPSV for IP65 shaft seal option) or SM233AE-KPSN (or SM233AE-KPSV for IP65 shaft seal option) is a housed motor but also has higher rotor inertia. The SM23 standard shaft is 0.82-inch (20.8mm) long.
ML-2340B BE231DJ-KPSN or BE232FJ-KPSN The motor dimensions are very close. The SM motor has the same pilot diameter (1.5"), bolt circle diameter (2.625") and flange size (2.25").  The SM motor with the -L long shaft option is 1.25" long . The ML-2340B had an imperial .375" diameter shaft with a .125" sq key, 1.25" long.
ML-3450A BE342KJ-KPSN or BE343LJ-KPSN The motor dimensions are close. The BE shaft is 1.19" long, .500" shaft dia with a .125" sq key. The pilot was .06" thick on the ML motor; it's .093" on the BE.  The BE and ML motors both have a 2.875" pilot, 2.74" sq mounting (3.875" bolt circle). The ML motor had a 3.39" sq flange; the BE motor has a 3.35" sq flange. The ML-A motor had a metric shaft, 15mm dia., 5mm sq key, 47.4mm long shaft. The BE motor is a stamped lamination motor and not a housed motor.  If the motor is being washdown at all, the BE is not a good choice.
ML-3450B BE342KJ-KPSN or BE343LJ-KPSN The motor dimensions are very close. The ML-B motor had an imperial shaft, .5" dia., .125" sq key, 1.25" long shaft. The BE motor is a stamped lamination motor and not a housed motor.  If the motor is being washdown at all, the BE is not a good choice.
ML-3475A BE343LJ-KPSN or BE344JJ-KPSN The motor dimensions are close. The BE shaft is 1.19" long, .500" diameter. The pilot was .06" thick on the ML motor; it's .093" on the BE.  The BE motor has a .125" sq key, .500" shaft dia, 2.875" pilot, 2.74" sq mounting (3.875" bolt circle).
ML-3475B BE343LJ-KPSN or BE344JJ-KPSN The motor dimensions are very close. The BE shaft is 1.19" long, .500" diameter. The pilot was .06" thick on the ML motor; it's .093" on the BE. The ML-B motor had an imperial shaft, .5" dia., .125" sq key, 1.25" long shaft. The BE motor is a stamped lamination motor and not a housed motor.  If the motor is being washdown at all, the BE is not a good choice.

A custom motor could also be investigated if you are interested.   Contact your local Parker Automation Technology Center distributor, who can request custom servo motors on our extranet.  The ATC distributor can also provide motor power and feedback cable part numbers and any breakout modules and double-check the drive power level appropriate for the replacement motor.
