For configuring the Compax3 and Xpress HMI for communication via rs485 4wire (same as rs422):
Xpress:
1. Channel General sets the name for the beginning portion of the tag. In this case "C3."
To get to here, under Comm tab, right click on the device, select properties.
Communications tab: Set ID for the XPR's serial port.
COM1 is not valid (RS232 only). Set this to COM 2. Set the Baud rate same as Compax3's configuration:
2. Device General sets the name for the middle portion of the tag. In this case "S."
To get to here, under Comm tab, right click on the channel, select properties.
Set model to RS-422
ID is set for the address of the Compax3:
3. In C3 ServoManager, set the Compax3's Communication for General and 4wire:
Note for the I12T11, the I/O needs to be set to free for control via serial communication.
This would work for the Compax3 I12T11, T30 or T40.
I11T11 and I10T10 are binary communication and cannot be controlled via serial.
Users will need to make their own cable to connect the XPRess HMI to the C3:
Note the cable should be shielded. Braided shield offers better RF protection than foil shield. Shield should be connected to the D-sub connector on both the XPR and C3.
Note the Xpress Compax3 driver does not support multi-dropping. Only a single Compax3 per serial port. For multi-axis, consider an ACR9000
After downloading the C3 drive configuration, power down control logic (+24vdc - x4/3). Connect cable to Xpress HMI. Then power on control logic. rs485 mode for the Compax3 mode is only detected for power-on. (If you disconnect the rs485 cable and connect the standard SSK1 serial rs232 cable with a PC it will not communicate until cycling +24vdc control power - x4/3 again.)
The XPR00 and XPR06 has a single dipswitch bank for Com2. XPR08 and larger has a dual dipswitch bank. The dual dipswitch bank needs all 12 switches set for RS422. These dipswitches are only read for power-on so if you change these, cycle 24vdc power to the XPR HMI. The communications cable does not need to be connected.
