By default the P series drives are set with Dynamic Braking turned on.
Dynamic braking shorts the motor phases to slow the motor.
So when the P series drive is not enabled, the motor shaft if turned by hand will feel like it's cogging. This is the dynamic braking. If you unplug the motor from the drive or power down the drive (and wait for the capacitors to uncharge), the motor shaft is quite smooth.
If users want to disable this feature, go to Drive/Motor > General > Dynamic Brake Control Mode.
