Modbus device settings are:
Requires BIOS setting change for COM1 to be set to rs422. See XT user manual.
This is in addition to the dipswitch settings under rear cover plate (see here).
Project needs to be version 4.1 for an XT.
Use COM2 and set to rs422 via dipswitches.
Project needs to be version 3.1
XT/IX and XPR2 have different pinouts on their COM ports. Note carefully the wiring (link above).
This project can be run on a PC and connect through a rs422 adapter to the Pseries.
If using a rs232 adapter, connect via straight-through cable to the rs232 to rs422 adapter and then the rs422 adapter to the Pseries. Echo setting makes no difference. Battery power should be on.
In Xpress on the Com tab > Device setting, change COM port to the PC's com port.
For usb serial adapters this typically is COM4, COM5, COM6, etc. and can be found in Device Manager.
Drive should have baud rate set using Drive Support Tool.
This is set under Drive/Motor > General Configuration > Index Configuration
Projects in above zip file already set to this in Xpress but users need to set this in Pseries drive. Save to memory and cycle power.
38400 baud rate recommended or slower. Comms problems can occur at higher settings.
Open 7segment display, turn terminating resistor on (dipswitch 2 on). Rotary dial switch for address should be set to 1 (cycle power after changing it as its own read once on power-up).
If changing the wiring and unplugging and re-plugging the cable, comms will error and Xpress won't try to re-connect.
It won’t try to reconnect unless you have auto demotion turned on and then it’ll try again after a time delay, the Demote time period setting.
Rather than cycling power on Xpress, turn on auto-demotion so it'll monitor comms and then restart.
Auto demotion can be set under channel in Xpress.
