With the release of Xpress 4.x to support the new XT Widescreen format displays, there are now version restrictions based on the hardware for which you are developing or editing applications.
The XT (Widescreen) Requires Xpress 4.0 and higher. The Compact Flash memory cards that worked in the XPR/XPR2 are not compatible with the XT. The XT uses SD memory cards and requires a newer version of Embedded Windows.
The XPR/XPR2 requires Xpress 3.x and lower. Applications created and or upgraded to 4.x are not compatible with the XPR/XPR2
When opening an existing application, Xpress will ask if you want to upgrade if it is older than the version you are using to edit the files. As long as you reply NO to upgrading, the editor will open in a compatibility mode that can make changes to the old application and save changes that will work on the old units.
If you say YES to the upgrade question, it will give you a range of available versions to use.
IMPORTANT - Once upgraded, it is not possible to "Down Rev" an application. Make copies of original projects and keep the originals as backups. Upgrading goes up but never down. Downloading an older version application from your PC than the HMI has will be corrected by the HMI after the download. The first time it goes into run mode, it will take a while as it upgrades the application to the version it has running on it. If you upload the application back from the unit after it has run, the application will now be at the higher rev level of the HMI and not necessarily compatible with your development software any longer.
Xpress 4.x can not build a new application from scratch for old versions. If you need to support older versions and create applications from scratch, keep a old version application to use as a starter app. Make a copy of the starter app and then when opening it, just say no to upgrading and the editor will open in the older version mode and save your project in the old version format.
