The Smart Encoder option (Q) for the MPP/MPJ (order code 3E), SM/SE, BE, NeoMetric/J series motors were only designed to work with the Aries drive. The Smart Encoder uses the Hall output lines as means of communication with the drive to tell it all the pertinent motor settings. This means that the Hall outputs of the Smart Encoder are not used in the traditional fashion and therefore not compatible with any other drives*.
Note: The transfer of motor settings from the Smart Encoder to the Aries drive takes about 3 seconds every time the drive powers up.
*The Compax3 F12 can be made to work by using hall-less startup (wake & wiggle) to ignore the hall sensor feedback. For the Compax3 F12, the feedback cable would need to be changed to the F-2C1. A custom motor file will need to be created using the Compax3 Motor Manager software. Here's a link to the videos that step you through this. On the last screen of the Motor Manager, change the standard motor file under Commutation: Digital hall sensor to Automatic commutation with movement.
Note the video shows Commutation angle for a resolver motor but for an encoder it'd be a pull-down selection:
This is shown in the 3rd video of that series at this point in the video:

Note: The newer Pseries cannot be used with hall-less commutation with the Smart Encoder feedback without modifying the F-4A1 cable:
Motors can be converted to standard incremental encoder via a repair RMA. Contact your ATC distributor for price quote.
