The 890 series only supports closed loop PMAC control. Sensorless PMAC control is not supported on the 890.
For sensorless PMAC control (or PMAC control on a VFD in general) the AC30 should be considered first. In North America, we initially recommend using products from our traditional servo offering for PMAC motion control; including camming & positioning applications. Your local Parker ATC can provide support for creating these applications.
The 890 drive with firmware v3.x may be paired with a permanent magnet AC motor (PMAC). European PMAC motors (such as Parker's NX motor line) were often used with the 890. Large PMAC motors such as Parker’s MGV high speed motors, GVM Global Vehicle Motors, and TMW torque motors were also used for 890 PMAC applications.

- Part 2: Commutating a PMAC for startup, or troubleshooting a PMAC electrical position offset
- How to troubleshoot the start-up of a PMAC motor
- Pulled from the manual, this procedure must be done to commutate a PMAC motor (the electrical position offset)
- The commutation procedure uses the 6901 keypad as the small keypad does not have access to these options.
- With 8 yellow buttons, 1 green RUN button, and 1 red STOP button.
- The PROG button on the 6901 Keypad is useful for switching back and forth between your location in the menus and running the motor in local mode
- Walks through tests involving:
- Inverting the feedback signal with one parameter
- Rotation direction verification
- Adjusting the electrical position offset
- IMPORTANT NOTE: The inverting of the Resolver / Encoder feedback counts outlined in an early step can affect operation throughout troubleshooting. If your motor does not run properly during one of the tests, make sure to invert parameter again before continuing with remaining tests (try subsequent tests with, and without, inverting the counts).
