Aries 2000/3000 watt Replacements (AR-20AE, AR-30AE, AR-20SE, AR-30SE)

Print Friendly and PDF

AR-20 and AR-30 drives are no longer available and are no longer repairable. We recommend discussing the belows options and the application machine requirements with your local Parker Automation Technology (ATC) distributor. They've automation engineers factory trained on our products and will be able to review your application specifics to determine the best choice moving forward.

Suggested Replacements
While the Aries AR-20 and AR-30 does not have a direct replacement, there are several products that are suitable depending on the application requirements. The Aries was designed to fit many different machine control solutions with a wide array of features. Not every feature is needed for every application so in order to select a replacement, the current installation should be reviewed in detail. The check list on the following page compares key specifications and features of the AR-20 or AR-30 with recommended Parker drives.

P Series: PD-35P exceeds the motor output requirements of the AR-20 and AR-30, has a smaller footprint and is the cost effective and in stock solution.

Compax3: S150V2F12I10T0M00 exceeds the motor output requirements of the AR-20 and has the most features and flexibility. It may work as a replacement for the AR-30AE depending upon the continuous/peak torque required by the motor in the machine application. The S300V4F12I10T10M00 exceeds the motor output for the AR-30AE but is physically much larger.

* Pseries and Compax3 do support hall-less startup. Standard motor file can be adjusted. Email emn.service@support.parker.com for further details with motor part number.

**Compax3 can be purchased with Ethernet TCP/IP communications with I30T11 option:  S150V2F12I30T11M00  OR S300V4F12I30T11M00

Motors and Feedback
The P Series and Compax3 will support most of the motors that are used with the AR-20. The key exception is the obsolete Parker smart encoders. These encoders were designated by the order code of “3E” in the MPP/MPJ series and by “Q” in all other motor families. The Parker smart encoders were 2000 line, incremental encoders that store motor set-up information in the encoder and push this data to the Aries on start-up. This data included initial hall/encoder alignment information. The P Series and Compax3 cannot read this information and therefore would not be able to use the hall information for initial commutation. In some applications it may be appropriate to keep these motors and run the drives in hall-less commutation mode.

Both the P Series and Compax3 can use Endat2.1 encoder which are designated by the order code of “6D”, “7D”, “8D” and “9D” in the MPP/MPJ motor families. When using one these motors with the Aries, the encoder output from the drive to the controller is in SSI format. Neither the Compax3 nor the P Series can produce an SSI signal for the encoder output. Some changes would be required to the controller program to accommodate the incoming encoder signal from the drive.

Cables
Feedback cable connectors and pin-outs are different for each drive. When changing from an Aries to Compax3 or P Series it will be necessary to change to a new feedback cable per the chart above or to rework the connector.

Both the Compax3 and the P Series offer equivalent I/O for interfacing with a controller, but the drive side connectors and pin-outs are different. The chart above references cables sets for popular Parker controllers to the drives.
