Introduction
The P3, P4, P5 and P7 series were lines of DOS-based HMIs running Parker's Interact runtime software. While they all had similar software and a similar hardware architecture, each series had a few differentiating features. A summary of each series, taken from old PowerStation literature, is shown below.
Models
These series covered all models with model number format P31-*, P41-*, P50-*, P51-* and P71-*. Model number formats are given in the below catalog samples. These samples do not show every option ever offered, but are good references for understanding what options were installed on a unit.
Older models had a format in the style P50-21AR-A. The important thing to note is that models in this vintage may have been shipped with SIMM stick memory instead of Compact Flash, making it more difficult to recover programs from them when they fail.
Replacement Options
Many of these models can be replaced by the PA2 [ Product Page ]. There are a number of exceptions to this:
- The P5 had a full set of physical function keys and a larger cutout. Parker no longer offers an Interact HMI with function keys. However, it may still be possible to migrate to a PA2 since function keys on the P5 were typically "mirrors" for existing touchable buttons in the Interact runtime. Contact Parker for assistance.
- Units with PC/104 or ISA cards installed (e.g. Allen-Bradley Blue Hose communications card).
- Units running custom software beyond the Interact runtime. Occasionally, certain machine builders would install additional software on the P21 and use it to do things outside Interact's capabilities. This is very rare.
- Applications that use a printer. Printers are no longer supported.
We recommend talking with Parker or your local distributor before attempting an upgrade.
