In the event a 590+ (or 955+) needs to be replaced, it is sometimes necessary to use a model with a different power rating due to availability constraints. However, using a unit with a different power level means that it will not be possible to transfer the configuration via the keypad. It is also not possible to transfer the configuration using a Full Install in DSE Lite because this will overwrite the drive’s PCODE, an internal parameter that configures the drive’s power level.
The correct procedure for transferring a configuration from one 590+/955+ to another one with a different power level is explained in this article. Required materials are:
- A copy of DSE Lite, freely available here: DSE Lite
- A 590+ programming cable, part number CM351909. This can be ordered from a Parker distributor.
- A USB-RS232 converter with an FTDI chipset. Parker does not sell these, but they are available from many cable and electronics vendors online.
This procedure assumes a backup file of the configuration already exists. If not, the article here will explain how to extract a working backup copy:
How to Extract and Install Parameters to the 590+ Drive using DSE Lite
Installing the Configuration
- Connect to the new 590+ using the same method used to connect to the old one.
- Click Command > Install (do not do a Full Install) and wait for the installation to finish.
- Make a record of all the drive parameters shown in MAGENTA. These are frame-dependent parameters and will need to be entered manually. These can be found on page 1 and page 2 in the configuration file. An easy way to record these is to print the configuration to PDF or paper.
- Click Command > Extract Drive Parameters and wait for the extraction to finish.
- Manually reenter each frame-dependent parameter in DSE Lite. Values that already match can be skipped.
- Click Command > Full Install and wait for the installation to finish.
- Run an armature current loop autotune (DO NOT run a field autotune). This can be done from the keypad. The motor shaft does not need to be disconnected from the load for this. The procedure for an armature current loop autotune can be found in the manual here: 590+ V8 DRV Manual, page 4-8
- After performing a Save Parameters from the keypad, reconnect DSE Lite and click Command > Extract Drive Parameters. Click File > Save and save this configuration to the PC as a backup.
