A trapezoidal move accelerates for a third of the time of the move, travels at max speed for a third of the time, then decelerates for a third of a time. Whereas a triangular move accelerates for half the move then decelerates for the other half. A trapezoidal move uses a higher acceleration whereas a triangular move uses a higher max speed. For most applications a trapezoidal move is recommended. You can test both move profiles in Virtual Engineer when sizing your application to determine which is best for you.
