User Guide for using the Telligent Community application which will be used to deploy the Parker Community. It is also not a comprehensive training guide, but rather a quick start user guide.
Collaborating with your group members:
To collaborate with members you must first be a member of one of the Groups created on the platform.
To find groups, you can either look at the sidebar on the homepage or view the Group Thumbnail widget.
Click on the first-level navigation to see the Groups in that area.
Once you are on the Group page you will be able to see the pieces of content by application depending on what theme is chosen and what applications are available.
If you have permission to post to the group you will see a "New Post" button in the top-left in the "My Account" area.
Activity stream:
The Activity Stream is a view of the latest activity happening on the Groups that you have access to. This may only be present on some Community Groups that have the associated theme enabled.
Use the "Quick Post" widget to post directly as a status onto the group feed.
Updating your profile:
Updating your profile helps bring life to the Community so that other members can help get an understanding of who you are.
Click on the avatar icon and your user's name in the sidebar of any page on the site to see the options for your profile.
Click "Profile" to update your profile settings like the bio, public email etc.
Click on "Settings" to manage your Notifications, set timezone, set date format, privacy settings etc.
Notifications:
In the Settings area there are 3 tabs where you can switch between Options, Subscriptions and Notifications.
Notifications area allows you to turn off or on Email and Live Alert notifications.
Live Alerts are the notifications that will display on the platform in the sidebar.
Clicking on the bell icon will open all unread notifications within the Telligent Community platform.
These will include engagements on your posts and messages with Likes, Comments and Replies.
Private Messaging:
The Messages area can be used to send private messages to users that have accounts on the Community.
Messages will not show up to anyone except those that you choose to receive them and also do not show on the Activity Stream.
These can be managed using the Comment icon in the sidebar.
Using the editor:
The "Quick Post" or status editor is a simplified version of the editor available when creating posts in other areas of the platform i.e. Wikis, Forums, Blogs etc.
You can type your message in the content box and there are options to append a file as well as font and editor options.
"Enter to post" can be turned off if you wish to be able to use Enter to create paragraphs.
Using the '@' symbol you can specifically tag users or groups on the platform. This is useful when you know who you want to bring into the current conversation you have. To ping/tag all of KINSHIP you can simply type @KINSHIP. Upon typing '@' Telligent will search current members and groups for you to choose and you can then click on the user's name to select them to be tagged in the content.
Example: Thys Basson
Creating a Forum Post:
You can "Start a Discussion" in a group you're a member of from the front page of the group or open up the Forum (in this example, called Support) and click the "New Post" button.
This will take you to a page where you can set the Subject of your new Forum post and start to enter in the content.
Forum posts allow the full functionality of the editor that Telligent Community offers including being able to copy and paste images into the post, full access to font and formatting options, add tables and even polls to the post.
Once a Forum post has been published you and other users can engage with the post by adding Comments. Comments can then be placed on those Comments to specifically reply to the user's message. Users can also Like the post or have the ability to Turn Reply notifications on or off.
